“Forests are the lungs of our land”

- Franklin D. Roosevelt

At Horse Cave Hardwood, our number one priority is ensuring that all of the wood we source to produce top quality firewood for our customers is harvested from our precious land in a manner that is responsible and conscientious of the impact it will have on the environment both now and in the future. All of the wood used to make our premium firewood is locally sourced from logging crews right here in Hart county Kentucky. These crews are overseen by Master Loggers who have been expertly trained to harvest a sustainable number of mature trees from the forest which allows adolescent trees to flourish and fill their place in the canopy. The majority of the logs we utilize in our manufacturing process are too small or of an undesirable shape for other industries and would previously be left in the forest. Our manufacturing process stimulates the local economy by providing a market for these imperfect logs and almost completely eliminates the waste wood from a harvested tree.

All of the Premium quality hardwood we produce is also Kiln dried in USDA certified heat treat ovens. During the kiln drying process, the wood is heated to over 200 degrees which kills all parasitic insects (such as emerald ash borers, powderpost beetles, and asian longhorn beetles) and forces moisture out of the wood. This ensures that our firewood is both safe to transport to other areas of the country and is seasoned perfectly so that it lights easily and sustains an even flame.
